SOLDIER
Christine and her Soldier
had planned their wedding day
in a little country chapel
Dad would give the bride away
She would be the perfect picture
in her soft white beaded gown
he would be a dashing sight
as loved ones gathered 'round
Then nine eleven changed all that
their plans would have to keep
his carrier got it's orders
to ship out that next week
They hugged and kissed each other
and said their last goodbyes
he promised to be back real soon
she promised not to cry
He left to fight on foreign soil
in a far off distant land
To clear out all the evil
and to liberate our friends
The nights were long and chilly
but her letters kept him warm
he dreamed of Christine faraway
she prayed for him no harm
Then one day a sniper
aimed his rifle, all too well
he shot the Soldier through the heart
there was a silence as he fell
The medic said he died at once
never feeling any pain
but another soldier standing close
heard the Soldier cry....."Christine"
In the chapel, Christine sits
alone
in her long white wedding gown
and thinks about her Soldier
knowing he won't be coming home
She says her prayers through misty eyes
and as the church bells ring
she can hear her Soldier whispering
"I love you so.....Christine"
