CHOCOLATE CHIP TOFFEE BARS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Have ready a 13x9 greased baking dish
2 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 egg slightly beaten
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts
1 (12 oz) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chip morsels
1 (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated)
1 (10 oz) pkg. of toffee bits
Since some recipe amounts are divided, you might want to read through all the instruction before beginning.
In large bowl, sift together flour and sugar
Cut in margarine until mixture resembles course crumbs.
Add beaten egg, mix well.
Stir in 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate chips and 1 cup nuts.
Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the mixture, set aside.
Press remaining crumb mixture onto bottom of baking dish evenly.
Bake 10 minutes. This will be the crust.
Remove from oven and spread the condensed milk evenly over the crust and 1 1/2
cups of the toffee bits over the milk.
Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture and
the remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips over the top.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes till golden brown.
Take out of oven and sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup toffee bits.
Cool completely before cutting into 36 squares.
